About Us

Mission Statement:

To work together to increase public awareness and acceptance of Down syndrome, while supporting and enhancing the lives of our children.

Our Goals:

  • increase awareness and visibility in the community
  • support individuals with Down syndrome of all ages and their families
  • provide social and skill development activities to reach all age groups
  • increase member engagement
  • increase ease of access to services for families by aiming to provide programs virtually and/or in different areas of Simcoe County

What We Do:

  • Discussions and information regarding health issues, services, parenting skills and acceptance
  • Social Events and programs including bowling, dance, Taekwondo, Pumpkinfest, Christmas party, summer picnic, craft and cooking classes, our March 21 Dinner & Dance, and our all-ages Club 21 program
  • Support for new families
  • Lending library and new parent packages at hospitals
  • Bursaries for speech, music, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, young adults, conferences, and education workshops
  • Young Adults Day Program
  • Awareness events and initiatives
  • Monthly newsletters

Current Executive Members:

The DSASC has a group of dedicated individuals who help to make our events and programs a success. The executive meets approximately 8-10 times/year. Some executive members may take on the roles of President, treasurer, secretary, and DSAO rep. Positions are nominated and have a 2 year service.
